Inguinal Hernia: A Treacherous Tunnel for a Mole follows a young child with an inguinal hernia who undergoes surgical repair. In order to help patients as well as their families and friends understand what an inguinal hernia is, the story uses a whimsical analogy, describing the hernia as a treacherous tunnel built by a meddling mole. Using this analogy, the anatomy and treatment of an inguinal hernia becomes easy to understand, and along with vivid illustrations, serves to improve understanding, making the experience less scary for patients and their families.

The end of the book contains a ‘Facts’ section with important information and answers to commonly asked questions, as well as what to expect before and after surgery, to supplement conversations with doctors.  A glossary of ‘Doctor’s Words’ is also included to provide helpful definitions of relevant medical terms in plain language, along with a page to take notes for your own hospital experience, if applicable.

Through science and colorful illustration, this book not only aims to empower patients and their families but is also an enjoyable and educational gift for kids who are curious to learn more about the fascinating world of medicine.

$1 from every copy of Inguinal Hernia: A Treacherous Tunnel for a Mole sold will be donated to SOFA (Surgical Outreach for the Americas), a nonprofit organization providing surgical services to underserved people in Central and South America.
